TA3D 0.6 alpha 7 for win32

Post by zuzuf » Sat Jun 13, 2009 1:43 pm

I've just fixed some obvious bugs in VFS code and built a package for win32 platforms. The main changes since alpha 6 are:
  • the new VFS system, more modular, cleaner, easier to maintain and to add support for other types of archives
  • 7z.exe is shipped in the package (it is required to extract mod archives downloaded from the mod repository service) to support RAR, 7z, Zip and TAR* archives
  • several other fixes (campaigns should work now)
as usual you'll find the package on our FTP:
ftp://downloads.ta3d.org/binaries/windows/dev/0.6/

NB: the VFS system is a core part of the code, if there is any bug in it, it'll affect the whole game, so don't consider this package playable before it's been properly tested (I know it works on Linux, but I haven't tested to play on windows ...)

yeah, new VFS code does much less search in its internal file database than previous code : it looks for an Archive::File in its database, if there is one, just order it to read the file since priority stuffs have already been taken into account when building the file database :D

It work well, really good.

The units in TA that feel some shots coming will do around little mobile for (cheer player up?haha, I usually smile while saw this) escape, it was really TA remake, /:^]
I thought this when found I always feel 3D camera still had some diffrent: The map borderlines, there are 2 kinds of common borderlines, one was like TA one was like supcom. TA didn't show borderlines, and supcom show the battle zone as a float sand table. But it was more simple and well-like in TA style, personal thought. And this solved the map down addtion.
The boarderlines could be black fog, or just limit camera couldn't look at outside.

limiting orthographic camera to map area can be done, but doing it with perspective camera is a real nightmare (it's simply meaningless because if you chose not to see the outside of the map, then you won't be able to see some units that are close to the border, mainly planes).

Order the units in a group, they shouldn't all going same point at once order, just try to keep same forms as before order.

eh, thus the better choose was block fog?
I really like this thus talked that, :P

How exactly VFS code should be tested?

I wasn`t able to download any mod from server, I wasn`t able to see available mod list. Maybe I do something wrong?

Also. Experienced a first crash since 0.6.0.5 - happens after ending mission and exiting the map results screens.

to see the mod list:
  • go to multiplayer menu
  • chose Internet
  • enter your login and password (if already registered, otherwise click register)
  • once you're logged into netserver service click the mod button on the left
  • browse the mod list
According to netserver's logs and database you tried to log in without having registered.

there is a problem with the server, it's the second time it does that, it gets in a state where you can't login or register :/. It has probably something to do with the connection to the database ...
