Could someone check the code in src/gfx/gui/area.cpp:122 ?
As you can see all indexes are i, except for this :

Is it a mistake or a feature ?

it's a feature. This checks for a focus change. When you click on a window which isn't the top window then it reorders the windows to put the one that got the focus at the front so you can see it
